I rolled my eyes at the scene before me. Those guards reacted at just about anything! Really, how annoying.
The moment I snapped my fingers, the dozen or so armed guards stood to attention.
Taking quick stock, I counted two boys in the trees beyond. One of them yelped.
Two thoughts suddenly occurred in my analytical mind.
1. Her voice was too high to be a girl's.
2. I recognized these two trespassers.
"What are you doing here?" I exclaimed.
One of the guards looked at me. "Miss Lishakov, there were several trespassers. These were the ones we caught, but I assure you - the guard dogs are out looking for the others."
I heard a bark from the vicinity of the West Wing. "Call of your dogs and put down your guns," I ordered briskly. Jonathan looked like he was about to wet himself. I almost snickered at that image. Jonathan's wet pants... ahah.
The guards were looking at my smirking face with something resembling anxiety. "Miss Lishakov?"
"Huh? Oh, yes, go back to patrolling. Make sure those dogs don't attack anybody. Oh, and - get this girl to the North Wing infirmary."
Then it was to the matter at hand. I sighed. "All right, ruse is up, Emily, Jonathan. Who else is her-"
An alarm sounded.
"Miss Lishakov! Someone tried to access the Forbidden Hall through the trapdoor!" A guard informed me in a panicked voice.
"Lower your tone with me, guar-"
A gunshot sounded from roughly the same place that the dog's barks had come from.
'Uh-oh,' I thought. I didn't dare say it out loud, since obviously everything had to have just the timing to interrupt my speech today.
